Knock Knock. Who’s there? The green-eyed monster.For goodness’ sake, send him packing, he’s a sorry sight.I recently found out that all these sayings derive from the works of William Shakespeare, whose life (well, it’s the anniversary of his death) we celebrate today.Knock Knock has become a staple for starting simple jokes, possibly some of the best jokes that help children begin to build and develop their own humour. These words come from Macbeth, and are said by a jesting porter, so their origin is in humour. The long Easter weekend feels really early this year, but it's here! Whether you are having a break from work, sharing some time with your family or just having a weekend devoted to eating chocolate eggs -it feels good to be having a break.I was thinking about what is associated with Easter and eating eggs is in fact very important, as they symbolise new life which is linked to Jesus's resurrection (Not quite sure how chocolate fits in, but that shouldn't deter you!).Then I came to the Easter Bunny. It never really figured in our household and unsurprisingly it doesn't have quite the same religious connection as eggs. However, its origins seem to stem back to a 17th Century german folk tale, which was about an Easter Hare bringing eggs to good children. If you want to distract your young readers over the weekend, why not indulge in another classic tale, which is now over 100 years old? 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘝𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘙𝘢𝘣𝘣𝘪𝘵 by Margery Williams is a gorgeous story for younger readers about a boy whose toy rabbit is transformed into a real rabbit, through the boy's love and affection. It is also a reflection on self-worth and how achievements can take time, but that maybe digressing too much from the simple pleasure of a story that brings the Easter Bunny to life this weekend. #happyeaster #easter #easterbunny #family #childrensbooks ...
